Revision Strategies

I found the revision tactics used in class to be somewhat effective. I feel that the one on one review was more effective than self or group evaluation. I feel that with myself I'm not as hard on myself, because I think that I'm a good writer and I like what I write. With other people I can look at what they wrote and maybe say that I would've done something different or said it a different way, but with me I already said it the way I wanted to so it's somewhat uncomfortable for me to go back on that.Overall I feel that the attention placed on revising in this class has aided me as a writer and will only help me in the future.-Thanks

Music

I feel that music has changed a lot over time. I feel that there are few artists that can make music that will change everything forever. I believe that Elvis ended a period of conformity when he came out with the rebellious music of rock n roll. I believe that the Beatles changed how music was marketed internationally. I believe that Michael Jackson changed how people reacted to music, and what pop music really was. I believe that since then(with a few people worth arguing for) there has been a lack of that dynamic change in music and culture.until now. I feel blessed to be living during the time period that I am because I truly feel we are currently getting to witness one of those generation artists. From a very unlikely background and a very unlikely genre of music I feel that a legend has emerged. Kanye West is changing music as we know it. He not only it an amazing hip hop artist, but he decided that being considered a good rap artist was not enough for him alone. He has branched out so much musically in the six years since his debut it truly amazes me. He is a rap artist with features from Bon Iver and Elton John on his newest album. It is amazing the things he has done to improve music. Even with all of his outbursts and controversies he is really a deep deep musical genius. At the end of the day we made him a celebrity, he is only here because of his amazing musical talent. People may not see it now, but I feel somewhere down the line we will come to realize that he really is the voice of our generation, and what he talks about is the same thing being debated in congress, spoken about in the state of union address, and are issues we have yet to find an answer for. I always feel inspired when people go against whats normal and do whats them and this is a perfect example of that. Agree or disagree listen to the songs from 808's and define that music. Listen to the songs from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and define that genre. I dont know what it is...it just feels right.
-thanks for listening

Outline Reflection

I found the outline to be very helpful. It told me exactly what I need to have in the paper, and even gave me a format to put it in. I essentially filled in the outline, and then proceeded to type my paper. i believe if we had outlines like this on previous papers they would have been constructed a lot better. The outline is even a great format to use in future essays.

Thesis Statement

"The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula Le Guin demonstrates the power of conformity in relation to past and present world transcendentalist actions.

Critical Reading

Once again the critical reading process helped me to see that you cannot judge a book by its cover. There are reasons for every single word that is said in a story. this process helps you to find those words and have greater understanding of the story. That can be a helpful tool in deciding theme and underlying messages in stories.

Women's Condition

I personally feel that women are undervalued in the early 1900's. the politicians of that time are too concerned with corruption in the government to see what is going on right before their eyes. They fail to realize that an easy way to deal with that corruption would be to allow women(which are considered moral and pure at the time)to assist in politics and voting. The women prove during WWI and WWII that they are invaluable piece to our success in America. At the time of the story they are neglected and often pushed aside. Their husbands often make all the decisions and the women are left to only minimally influence the man's often very strong opinions. Women in the early 1900s are very strong and valuable educators and vial in rearing the children of that era. But it is not until two decades later that congress realizes how valuable they are to society and pass a law for them to vote. They are also very influential in politics at that time leading the religious revival and temperance movements.

How Far Is Too Far?

Human tend to be over passionate about things. We become so involved in certain things, that we feel that out life almost depends on it. People are interesting in the sense that most times when we get tired of something we find something new to be passionate about. In The Most Dangerous Game is a story of a man whose boredom causes him to murder other people. Being in South Dakota I know all about being bored, but not quite to this extent. The hunter becomes the prey in the end in an unpredictable ending. The Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge was also interesting. The vision he had ended up being wrong. I feel that most visions that we have in life are often wrong. I cant say that many of the things I envisioned for myself did not occur. I often wonder if anyone's visions ever come true?

Hapiness

The Ones Who Walk away from Omelas was a very touching story. It teaches us about basic human behavior and psychology. Everyone in the city of Omelas has attained ultimate happiness, outside of one kid whom the people torment to continue to have that happiness. The cruelty of those humans was put in a drastic manner. After reading this story and attempting to connect that to life today I had a few questions that could not be answered in my headI . If we were all given the opportunity to live in a city of unattainable happiness we would obviously take it. The question I asked is though some people cared for the child, could you personally promote the brutality displayed in the story for your own personal gain? The even better question is would you be able to sacrifice and be the tormented for the happiness of the multitude? In those question lies the fundamental basics of human psychology.I believe there are two types of people in this world; the selfish and the self-less. Could you walk away from the city of Omelas?

Writing

The writing process can be very stressful. At times you don't what information in your research to use, or who to quote to prove an idea. These are problems I'm sure every has run into. The thing about writing that I love so much is ultimately in the end you get to put what you want to say to world in print. The messages within the paper that describe your personality are amazing. I feel that you can learn an awful lot about a person just by reading their writing. While the process was long, drawn-out, and strenuous. Getting that paragraph to tell people about the world and how I see it in my mind is priceless.

Semester Evaluation

I believe that this semester has been some what bitter-sweet. The very large amount of work given to us is definitely an adjustment from my previous English classes, and it makes it very tough to keep up. On the other side, the majority of the work given has a purpose behind it. There are some assignments that are busy work. For the most part, the assignments given are to help us to succeed. I want to see how things progress as the semester goes on , but I can't say I have had a horrible experience with my freshman English class.

RBAA Topic

I want to look into parental influence on child adult life. It was a question posed in my psychology class in high school. "Do parents really matter?" My question is are doctors born doctors? politicians born politicians? Or, are we simply products of our environment? Are kids raised in a drug-filled neighborhood destined to do drugs? I want to look into specific cases of both sides and compare and contrast the two sides.

I have always found enjoyment in working with others. Being able to break away from solitude and work amongst my peers is a great experience. I can see where some people who don't like it would be somewhat hesitant, but I feel group work matches my personality well, and I would like to do it more often in all of my classes.

I read this article and I can't help but to laugh to myself a little. I completely believe in sending scientist to see what is around our planet, and in other galaxies. I completely believe in scientific research to discover what is out there in the universe. The thing that makes me laugh is our childish infatuation with wanting to discover a new earth. This article was written from the point of view of the kid who has every toy ever made, but still has the longest Christmas list you've ever seen! We have everything we ever needed within this planet, and we just don't grasp that concept. We are destroying something that is in fact exactly what we are spending billions looking for elsewhere. The thought of there being aliens or animal-like humans out there sometimes intrigued me, but never interested me. Life is amazing on this planet. So I vote instead of searching for life on other planets we should spend that money fixing this one. I'm the places struggling with disease, malnutrition, and economic disaster would greatly appreciate it.

Switching from fossil fuels to biofuels will help the people, the environment, and the economy.

1.America currently has a great foreign dependence for oil.

2.The burning of fossil fuels is causing the climate change

3.The awareness of ethanol use would cause great competition with gas empires.

Jury of My Peers

I found the peer review process to be a very interesting one. It was a new experience for me that I had never been asked to perform in that type of format before. I have never in my life been asked to review someone else's art directly in front of them. From the critical end it made me feel somewhat uneasy. Reading someone else's work you don't really know what they were trying to say, or how they were attempting to express certain event or emotions. Being critical of something that is not set in stone ie:grammar, punctuation, etc. made the process all the more difficult. You don't know how close the person is to that work or how much they really value your opinion. From the creative end the same issues arise. Work that you may be personally connected to may be viewed as unintelligent or under-developed in the eyes of others. I believe that could be the reason people are reluctant to write about topics that are extremely personal or tell stories where they are not viewed as the hero. Also at times on the critical end it's as simple as you have nothing to say. Sometimes people's work are just that good. I see the peer review system as extremely flawed and an ineffective way to judge someone's work.

Me

Hey whats up my name is Terrance Terry. And no I do not go by Terry Terry so if anyone asks me that I prob won't care but I like to think I'd be mad. That's something about me I am a pretty patient person and it takes a lot for me to get mad due to past events in my life, and a little anger management. I come from the Chicago area of Illinois and was born there. Pretty much every other person from my family is from the south so i have a touch of southern personality to me. I am a very outgoing person which anyone who is around me for more than twenty minutes can tell. I am extremely comfortable with myself so it's a very rare occasion for me to be embarrassed. I am the type of person that that will give you the most respect in the world until I get upset. And my biggest pet peeve are people who think they're better than everyone. -Thanks for reading
